Implant Came out

| November 15, 2013 | 1 Comment

I had 4 implants put in the bottom gum about 6 months ago. I had pain in one implant and it came out a few days ago. The dentist says I have to have the surgery again to have a new implant put in.

I was told it can’t go in the same spot and he has to decide where it should go. There were no x-rays taken when I complained of the pain. Should I get another opinion on this?

    Lois,

Xrays give us very important information about location of the implant post. If you were experiencing pain I would think an xray would have been part of the exam process to try to narrow down what the problem is. It would also show your dentist or oral surgeon where the implant post was in relation to the nerve. Having an implant fall out is not common. It sounds like your bone did not properly osseointegrate around the titanium post. If lack of bone support is a concern your surgeon may recommend bone grafting before replacing the implant. It never hurts to get a second opinion when it comes to any medical or dental procedure. If you are not fully confident in the skills of your surgeon then I recommend another opinion.
