Dental implants problems – Numbness in my top lip..

I had a tooth extraction and a dental implant placement 18 months ago. (One of my front teeth.)I had no complications or infection. 2 weeks later I woke in the morning with numbness in my top lip (on the post side) and significant swelling to the same side of my face.

I had an x-ray and examination from the periodontist who completed the work and no abnormality was detected. He was not able to offer any explanation.
These symptoms went away overnight but have continued to recur on a regular basis. I wake up with the same symptoms in the morning, they gradually reduce throughout the day and things are back to normal by the next day. This has happened 6 times in total now.

Can you offer any explanation for this

    Morning Numbness

    Hi Emilie,

It’s probably not a coincidence that these symptoms are only occurring in the morning and wearing off through the day. If the post was placed near your nasal sinuses or happened to perforate into the sinus cavity, then laying down at night and sleeping a certain way can cause the pressure to increase in that area, leaving you with those sensations in the morning. Try sleeping with your head propped up, and definitely not that side of your face against the pillow. If the symptoms persist you may need to see a specialist to determine whether or not the sinus was perforated.
